- Who Can Attend CTE? Juniors and Seniors from our component school districts - Candor, Dryden, Groton, Ithaca, LACS, Lansing, Newfield, South Seneca, and Trumansburg - make up the student body at the Career and Tech Center.
- What is a Typical School Day Like for CTE Students? Students attend their Career and Tech class for a minimum of 2 hours a day. Senior classes are held in the morning, and junior classes are in the afternoon. Bus transportation to and from the Career and Tech Center is provided by your home school district.
- How Many Credits Can I Earn? Career and Tech students can earn 3 - 4 high school credits per year. Most students earn 2 CTE credits and 1 credit of additional academics, primarily in math and/or science. Physical education is available for districts that participate in this course offering. Students can earn math or science credits through separate classes taught at the Career and Tech Center or through the integrated academic learning model.
- What are Integrated Academic Credits? Specific Career and Tech courses have been approved by NYS to offer graduation credits in mandatory subject areas, such as math, science, physical education, art, and or/health. Students who need these credits to graduate can receive them by successfully passing their Career and Tech class.
- Are College Credits Available? Several CTE programs offer concurrent enrollment college credits through Tompkins Cortland Community College. These college credits are easily transferable to Students can access their college transcript from Tompkins Cortland and forward it to the college they will enroll in following graduation. These credits are offered to students free of charge.
- How Do I Register for a Career and Tech Program? Students must meet with their home school counselor to sign up to enroll in a Career and Tech Program during their course selection appointment.
- What is the Deadline to Enroll? Career and Tech Programs are filled on a first come, first serve basis. The enrollment period begins on January 30, 2023 and continues until all programs are filled to capacity.
- What Happens if the CTE Program I Choose is Filled? Students will be placed on a waitlist for the filled CTE class. Students should select a second choice Career and Tech class to be eligible to attend the Career and Tech Center. Students and home school counselors will be notified if/when a student is removed from the waiting list.
